Police Dog Ballast (Bally) PD407

Police Dog Ballast (Bally) PD407

PD Bally served in Cairns (Far North Queensland) for over 7 ½ years. At 11 months old puppy Bally was sent to Cairns to be trained under Dog Handler Senior Constable Adrian Marek, who at the time had PD Xander.

At 18-months-old and following the retirement of PD Xander, PD Bally was taken through his paces at the Dog Squad course in Brisbane under the guiding hand of Senior Constable Marek. A handler of 9 years, Senior Constable Marek had his work cut out with PD Bally who was now a very large black German Shepherd with endless energy and an incredible ability to jump astonishing heights.

The pair then returned to Cairns where they would work closely together for the next 7 ½ years. PD Bally toured the great Far North, sitting off drug crops and providing assistance in our remote communities.

His work in Cairns was tireless. He tracked over 1000 offenders during his service, it wasn’t uncommon for PD Bally to run over four operational tracks a shift.

PD Bally was as popular with the Cairns Community as he was with the Cairns Police. He featured regularly in the news with his offender locations and is well-known amongst the Cairns Community.

His loyalty to Senior Constable Marek was unwavering, they shared a bond like no other. A bond so strong that little communication between the two was required, they both knew what job had to be done and were by each other’s sides day and night.

Their shared bond is strong that it would be near impossible to re-home PD after retirement. PD Bally will happily see the remainder of his years out as a treasured member of the Marek family.

Thank you for your service PD Bally
